Newborn Photo Options

Our newborn portrait sessions are different from any other baby session we do. They typically take 2-3 times as long as a normal baby session. Why? Because newborns typically need to be fed and/or changed multiple times during the session. Getting that sleepy baby look and all the adorable photos we all love takes a little more time and attention than we spend on babies over 3 months. For that reason we prefer to reserve at least an hour for each newborn session. The sitting fee will be a little more than our regular baby sessions, but it's well worth it for a precious artwork you'll have to cherish for years to come.
A typical newborn session has time enough for two-three different series of images. Each series will have 5-10 poses on a particular set-up or background. Depending on how your baby co-operates we'll know if we can get just two or up to three different series with your session. If you want even more variety in your session, you can opt to add time to your sitting, thus adding a third or fourth series to your collection. Here are a few different series we commonly do at Giggles:

Classic black is just that. Classic. These photos are timelessly elegant and can include shots with mom and dad. We usually try to get full lenths, close ups, detail shots, and family shots for a lot of variety in this series.

Everyone will envy your photos when they see your baby in this pose! The pose is easiest for babies under 2 weeks old who are well fed and ready to sleep. It takes quite a bit of time to get baby asleep enough to get the pose, but it's completely worth it when we get "the shot".

We've got lots of different backdrops and baskets we can use. Typically we determine which to use when you come in for your session. Props such as a blanket or stuffed animal that belongs to baby make great additions to these photos and help use determine what background and basket style to use for your photo. You can visit our facebook page to see our current work including other baskets we have and use.

We've got several backdrops and fabrics we can use for the hanging baby pose. It's best if baby is fully asleep for this pose so it may take a little time to get them asleep enough to pose them well. The results are adorable and eyecatching!

We've got several different ottomans and stools that we can use to pose your baby. From a wild zebra print to the more subdued white we've got a stool for you. Often blankets and props can be included in these photos, so if you've got a special blankie or toy you want inluded, this is a great way to have it included.

One of our most commonly requested series is our stack of towels. We can add props such as a little football, basketball, and soccer ball... duckies for a bathtime look, or a plush toy for a personal touch.

Have your Cake and Eat it Too!

One of our most popular baby sessions is the first birthday shoot. These sessions include a complimentary baby cake (made by Sweet Treats). Since we order our cakes from a local custom bakery it's fun to play around with color during the first birthday session. We can order the cake with colors to match the balloons, tutu, and/or birthday hat.

If you want to do someting fun for your babies first birthday session, be sure to specify what your color scheme is going to be whenever you schedule your session. We've got several tutus with bows that are available to use if you don't have one of your own. We also provide balloons (we've got quite a selection of colors) and the boxes with ribbons. So all you need to bring is the baby.

A lot of our clients to order custom hats at boutiques or from etsy. If you're planning on doing so, just be sure to email me in advance so I can order the approrpiate color cake.

I am starting a series of fine art fairy portraits, one for each season, and each available for only a couple days. The best of each seasonal series will eventually be included in a fine art photobook, calendar, and stationary to be sold at local boutiques and gift shops. Limited Edition Fall Portraits - Maybe?

Ok. So I'm considering offering the following limited edition portraits, but before I go all out to promote this special, I want to see if there's any interest. It seems like everyone is interested in natural and affordable photos. So what I'm trying to find out is if there's anybody interested in fine art portraits with more elaborite scenes. You know, like the stuff from Anne Gedes and Lisa Jane. Our Winter Wonderland limited edition was a hit several years back, but I'm not sure how this one would go over so I'm looking for feedback.

Since the scene takes time to set up, I would block off one or two days to shoot these sessions. The cost of the session would be a little more than our normal session, but would include the disc, print credits, AND a fine art product such as a canvas slim wrap. I haven't decided on all the details, but I'm thinking maybe $200 for the sitting, disc with all the images, a spiral bound brag book OR $25 print credits, prints available at 50% off, and a custom 11x14 slim wrap or gallery mounted print.

The image for the fine art print or slim wrap would include the digital art (like you see on the sample images). So tell me, are any of you interested in having a fine art piece of your child for your fall portratis this year? Comment or leave a message on my facebook page with your response.

Boutique Studio VS Chain Studio

So, why would would a person want to pay more to have their photos taken by an indivudally owned small boutique style photography studio instead of going to a chain studio like Olan Mills or Portrait Innovations? Here's a little info to help you determine which option is best to meet your needs:

Cost

Chain Studio: Generally sittings are free or very low cost. Most people spend between $50 and $300 after they've purchased their packages and/or disc.
Private Studio: Sitting fee is generally higher and can cost anywhere from $50-$150 for the sitting. Our average total cost spent ranges from $150-$350, but some private studios go up as high as $800 for their averages.

Wait Time:

Chain Studio Depending on the time of the day you arrive you may not have a wait at all or you may end up waiting for over an hour.
Private Studio: Little or no waiting. The photographer is ready to work with you when you arrived at your scheduled time.

Image Style:

Chain Studio: Although chain studios are working at improving, most chain studios have mainly traditional (and often tacky) props and very simple backgrounds. Their goal is to get you in and out as fast as possible, and capture good smiles of your child at whatever stage they're currently in.
Private Studio: If you're looking for funky, fun, and modern props, interesting settings, and unique images, then a boutique studio is where you need to go. The photographer is interested in helping you create timeless works of art, not just documenting time.

Photographer:

Chain Studio: Depending on who's shift it is, your photographer may vary. Some days you may get an inexperienced college student, others a talented aspring artist. You may get lucky and find a good photographer working at one of these studios, but the good ones usually move on after a few years.
Private Studio: It's not just a photographer, it's YOUR photographer. That same person will be there from maternity, to newborn, to their first birthday. You never have to worry about who might be on staff because you'll always get your photographer.

Outdoors:

Chain Studio: Most chain studios are limited to indoor photography only with limited backgrounds.
Private Studio: Privately owned studios frequently have outdoor as an option. If they're in a retail location, they can meet you at your home or a park to get outdoor images. Our studio, for example, has a 2.5 acre yard on site for fantastic outdoor images.

Artistic Effects:

Chain Studio: Limited artistic effects are available and generally cost extra.
Private Studio: Most private photographers take their work seriously and want each and every image to be a work of art so you'll fnd that a good portion of your images will have artistic effects and retouching added for you. Plus, you can usually request additional effects with very few limitations on what can be done.

Ordering:

Chain Studio: Chain studios generally want you to place your order immediately after your session...you know...when your child is getting fussy and you're exausted and ready to go home. They are likely to push you to buy more than you want and sometimes even print some photos to show you so you'll feel bad if you don't buy them.
Private Studio: Our studio offers online ordering so you can place your order at your own convenience (without anyone breathing down your neck). No pressure to buy. And you can do it whne your children are in bed. Other boutique studios may offer ordering appointments set for a week or two after your sitting. You can plan a time when you can leave with kids with a sitter and the extra help and guidance from the photographer is generally focused on helping you make decisions rather than pushing you to buy things you don't want.

Another baby body parts collage. The best age to do this sort of collage is between 3 and 5 months. The reaosn we do them at this age is because as a newborn most babies have bellybuttons that are still healing and they sometimes have blemishes and "fur" that needs to clear up. By 3 months most of these imperfections are gone and their skin is baby smooth. After 5 months, it's still possible, but babies get wiggly and it's harder. So 3-5 months is the recommended age. If you want one of these of your baby, be sure to mention it during your session so we can be sure to get all the needed shots.

As you already know, we do custom collages. This is an example of our "silly faces" collage. These are great for toddlers and young children. It's a fun way to see all their different personalities in one print. This one is little Olivia. Simply Adorable! I had a super hard time picking out which silly faces to use on the collage. Fun stuff.

Collages of this size (10x20) are usually $60 framed and ready to hang. If you've already got a frame (perhaps one that you keep and just switch the photo inside out), then it's only $40 for the collage print alone. Ask for details if you're interested.

Twin Girls first Birthday

These little sweeties came in for their first birthday portraits this week. They were SO CUTE together. I love when babies get excited about the birthday cake. Little Makenna was COVERED in it by the end of the session. It was so adorable. And then she kept trying to crawl off all covered in cake. The whole time Hailey's just sitting there snacking away on hers. By the time we finally got Makenna sitting still long enough to get the shots we needed little Hailey had nearly devoured half of her cake! Don't imagine she got much sleep after that session! Lol. The Triplets are Four

Just had the pleasure of photographing the triplets again. They're four years old already! It doesn't seem like they should be; they're growing so fast! And Anne Marie is catching up with them. She's only a little shorter than the triplets, so much so that you'd think they were quadruplets. Lol.

During their session Susan and TJ were talking about how great it would be if we video-taped their sessions. It's so much chaos, I think people would find lots of enjoyment out of watching it. Then they'd appreciate their one "terrible two year old" and how easy their session is compared to a set of triplet four year olds and an 18 month old! Lol. And if the kids aren't funny enough, we adults are always making absolute fools of ourselves trying to get smiles out of the kids. It's pretty funny.

I had the pleasure of working with some of the sweetest little girls last week. First was Hannah who was in for her 6 month session in our baby's first year program. She was quite a smiley thing. And her red hair was absolutely adorable.

Olivia came in later on the same day. She's been coming for a couple years now. This was her four year photo shoot. Always a little ham, Olivia is a lot of fun to work with.

Sitting Length: 15-20 minutes

Subjects: Single-child only (for additional children, add a second session)

Session includes a CD with all the full resolution image files, a copyright release allowing you to reprint your photos, and a sprial bound brag book with all your images. Larissa or Devin will take 25-30 images of your child during this 20-30 minute session. Your child may wear one outfit and can have their photos taken either indoors or outside here at the studio. Add an outfit change for $15. Add an extra child for $30.

Cute Kiddos Contest:

Here are the details:

How to enter: To participate in this contest you need to bring you child in for a child or baby session between now and mothers day 2010. You can schedule a regular priced session, or you can bring them in for our $99 mothers day special. After your session, you may choose one photo of your child from that session to enter in the contest.

How to Win: We'll post all the enteries both on our blog and on our facebook page. At this point, you have two ways of winning. The first is through popular vote. You may vote once per day for an entire week (May 9th-16th) and encourage all your friends and family to do the same. The child with the most votes after that week will win the People's Choice Grand Prize. The second way you may win is with our panel of judges. One May 20th we'll have a panel of 30 local business owners review the photos and cast their votes. They'll be voting based on cuteness and expression. The child or baby with the most votes here will win our First Prize. And we'll have one honorable mention for the person who's the next closest runner up in either category (popular vote or judges vote).

How to vote: For the online voting, you'll be allowed to vote once per day. You may post a comment on the facebook photo of the child you think should win or you may vote by leaving a comment on our blog. Blog votes must include the voters full name to prevent people from voting more than once in a day. We'll count all the new posts/votes at the end of each day. Remember, you may only vote once per day so either the blog or facebook, but not both in the same day.

Prize Details: The $25 Giggles Photography Gift Cards may be used toward prints, products, or future sessions at Giggles Photography/Larissa Photogarphy. The photo shoot with Larissa may be a child, baby, maternity, or glamour session (hey, we mom's deserve to look good too!) valued at up to $200. The photo shoot with Devin may be a child, family, or baby session valued at up to $150. Session winners must redeem their session before December 31, 2010. Most sessions include a CD with all the images, copyrights, and a full set of proofs or a brag book. If winner chooses a session worth less than the maximum value, the difference is not redeemable in any form. The winners of the "all about me" baby books will recieve a custom 8x8 softcover photo book with our new "all about me" theme...$75 value. It's ADORABLE! Winners of the children's place gift card will recieve a $25 gift card to "Children's Place". Giggles Photography is not accossiated with Children's Place stores.

Rules: Entries must be from sessions that take place April 24th through May 9th 2010. Previous sessions do not qualify. Entries must be a photo of a single child ages 3 months through 7 years. One entry per session. If you wish to enter two children from the same session, an additional $20 entry fee is required to submit the second child, but they must be seperate photos of each individual child. You may not enter the same child twice. All entries must be recieved by May 9, 2010. Voting begins May 9, 2010.

If taking your kids to the mall to have their pictures taken with a giant mascot-like bunny isn't appealing, consider these options for a different type of Easter portrait this year. Here are a few different options we have available at giggles photography...

From now until Easter we'll be offering discounted mini-sessions for Easter. The following two sitting options are available:

Basic - $50
During this 20 minute mini session, we'll take 10-20 shots of your little one on one of our Easter scene's. Included in the cost is an 8x10 gift print and your choice of three favorite images emailed to you along with a copyright release which allows you to reprint them anywhere.

During this 20 minute mini session, we'll take 10-20 shots of your little one on one of our Easter scene's. Included in the cost is an 8x10 gift print and a CD with all the images and the copyright release.

Giggles photography specializes in Babies, Children, and Family Portraits. Our style is fun, colorful, and whimsical. Our fun, layed back approach to photography is a breath of fresh air compared to the rushed unpleasant experiences you'll get all the mall studios. We spend time making sure your little one is relaxed and comfortable so we can capture their genuine personality without all the hassle you'd get a other studios. And instead of sitting you through tedious order appointments right after you have your pictures taken, we'll post your images online so you can order at your convenience. And finally, to top it all off, you'll get a CD with all your images... with the copyright release so you can do whatever you want with your images after the session.
